Garry Shaw was taught to fish by his grandfather when he was eight years old. Originally from Tayside Scotland, he grew up fishing for Salmon and Sea Trout on the Tay Tributaries, as well as on the North and South Esks. Whilst working in the north of England he fished competitively for the very successful Stonebridge Kingfisher Fly Fishing Team, winning several pair competitions with fishing partner Peter Appleby, England International and inventor of the notorious Apps Bloodworm. During this time Garry earned a reputation as an extremely skillful Dry Fly Fisherman specializing in Brown Trout and Grayling.

A very competent and creative Fly Tyer, Garry has developed a number of his own patterns which have a proven record on the rivers and lochs of Skye.
For the last four years he has worked as a Fly Fishing Guide on the Isle of Skye and receives great pleasure from teaching others the skills of Fly Fishing and Fly Tying, helping them to catch their first trout or salmon.
